Sotheby’s executives announced that the first sale, of contemporary art, would be June 29 beginning at 6:30 p.m., immediately followed by its Impressionist and modern art evening sale.

A rendering shows how Sotheby’s plans to hold live auctions remotely beginning June 29. The auctioneer will be in London and bids taken from around the world.

The auctions will be livestreamed in high-definition, each lot accompanied by an onscreen image. Bidders can participate by phone or online.
